Baby Hauntings, A New Moon With Night Whispers, and when Paranormal Podcasts Blew Up

When the house finally goes quiet, small sounds grow teeth. We open with a string of Michigan hauntings that circle around infants and lullabies—the locked ward at Eloise echoing with cries, a Traverse City rocker caught humming like a child, graveside bells meant to warn the living, a Bay City high chair that won’t stay where it’s put, and rainbound sobs at Sleeping Bear Dunes that might be a mimic spirit calling you closer. Each story is a window into care, loss, and the way places hold our secrets long after we’ve moved on.

From there we turn inward. A startling baby laugh after a family death sparks a conversation about grief, intuition, and how to test the weird with clear eyes—powder around a crib, cameras, and the patience to avoid easy false positives. Under the New Moon in Scorpio, we lean into shadow work, shedding old patterns, and the power of ritual. Tarot readings thread through the night—Death, Tower, and repeating 11:22—while we unpack a practical method built on intention, consent, and letting the cards carry the weight they’re given.

We ground the mystic with craft. A manifestation jar and a spoken chant aim creative energy at something tangible: a show that earns its keep, reaches the right ears, and turns truth into momentum. An AI palm reading offers an unexpectedly sharp mirror—intuitive by nature, disciplined by experience, and suited to a self-made path where visibility matters. We then zoom out to the bigger story of paranormal podcasting, from early forum whispers to the boom sparked by Serial, Lore, and a pandemic that turned headphones into midnight portals. The takeaway is simple: microphones don’t just record voices; they capture whoever—and whatever—is ready to speak. If you’ve got a story, named or anonymous, we’re ready to listen.

If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who loves the uncanny, and leave a rating or review so more curious minds can find us. Then tell us: which moment made you turn the lights back on?

SPEAKER_00:

They say the house feels very different when your baby sleeps. Everything is still except the things that never sleep at all. They don't grow out of seeing the spirits. We are the ones that grow out of believing them. Tonight, when the house falls silent, listen. If your baby smiles in their sleep, someone might be smiling back. Hello, welcome back. And this is your host, Melissa, at Strange Deranged Beyond Insane. Wanted to start this episode with a quick fire of Michigan baby hauntings. And what would give me that idea? Well, I laid Jack down to sleep, and his dad is upstairs playing a computer game, and I said, Well, this is a perfect time to get a very creepy podcast in my favorite. In 1883, the crying cradle of Eloise happened. Nurses reported hearing crying from a locked children's ward. Ironically, no babies had even been in there in over 50 years. The phantom of the rocking chair was, I guess, first heard of in Traverse City State Hospital. Security guards heard a wooden rocker moving upstairs. Okay, that's happened in many places. But while recording, um, obviously, when they went back on their evidence, is when they figured out that this was a baby humming while the chair was rocking. So that I've never heard of that before. That would be super creepy, but that would be amazing evidence to capture. So let's talk about the St. Joseph Cemetery baby bell ritual. Families used to place tiny bells on infant graves, not to honor them, but to warn the living if the dead began to rise. Bells weren't for beauty, bells were for warning. So now we have the lullaby in the pines, and this was in Grayling, Michigan. Locals say that in the Hansen State game area, campers sometimes hear a lullaby ringing through the forest at night. Soft, shaky, like a mother singing. But here's the story. In 1935, a logging family lost their baby during a harsh winter. The mother searched for days, singing the baby's lullaby into the woods, hoping he'd hear her voice. She ended up disappearing too. And now people don't see anything, they just hear the lullaby. It never sings the whole song, just enough to let you know it's still looking. The empty high chair, and this is Bay City, Michigan. A house on South Johnson Street keeps getting resold. No one lasts more than a year. The same report every time. At night you hear a baby fussing, then tiny tapping footsteps on hardwood, then every cupboard opens, and finally the old wooden high chair that no one owns moves itself to the center of the kitchen. Home inspectors tried removing it. It always comes back. You don't have to believe in ghosts, but that high chair does creepy. The baby in the rain, and this is in sleeping bear dunes. Hikers and even rangers have heard it. Soft crying near the dunes or shore line, but only when it rains. An explorer swore he saw a bundled baby sitting in the sand dunes during a storm. He ran to help, but as he got closer, the crying stopped, and the blanket was full of sand. Native legends say that crying on that shore isn't a baby, it's a mimic spirit calling you closer. It doesn't want help, it wants company. Wow. Um creepy. Very creepy. So I was told from a friend, Tom Dowling, who has been on the podcast several times, um, he actually told me to put like a baby powder or flour around Jack's little crib. Well, it's a temporary crib because we don't have a we don't have like a permanent crib for him yet. Um just because we wanted to do like the three in one, and he's only three and a half months, so we have him, we still sleep in the same room as him. Obviously, we're not like set up yet, but we're still on the first level of the house. We're not all the way upstairs. So, anyways, um that was the whole point in saying that is that he, you know, Tom's like put that around his crib and then, you know, see if you see like footprints, right? Um, and obviously I know what size my husband wears. He wears like 12, 12 and a half. But the reason why I won't do that is because since he's not up in his bedroom and we're always like walking around in that room, I just don't think it would be um I think it would be I think I would try to debunk it too much. I mean, we do have a camera, but it's in the other room by his swing. But I definitely want to set up his camera for a few nights in that room and kind of like the thing is though, is that his baby camera does not record, it's just for us to see. But um, yeah, I would be really curious because he there is a few creepy things that he has done. Uh, I will share one moment. You know, obviously he got to meet my dad, and then my dad died shortly after that. Did talk about that a couple episodes ago, and probably like two weeks after my dad's passing. So what Jack was like a month and a half, maybe. So he was he was still like brand new. And I he was like looking up in the corner, and I was like, What are you looking at, buddy? And he like let out this really creepy laugh, and he hadn't like really started laughing yet, right? Because you're when you're that tiny, babies are that tiny, they don't really like giggle. And this was like a full-blown, like hee hee hee hee hee, and it it definitely fucking freaked me out. Even being me doing what I do all the time, going out to these creepy places, that did not sit right with me, and I just um yeah, I had a moment where I looked down at him and I was looking around in this dark room, and I was thinking, I hope that spirit is someone that I know, because if it's not, that would be really, really freaky. But yeah, so I will use Tom's advice once Jack is up in his room. Um, when he's big enough to stay up there, I will definitely do it up there because I I think that was really interesting suggestion, right? You know, just to kind of see what kind of footprints you'll get in that flower or baby powder. And if there's anyone out there that has tried this, please let me know. I would love to know if it actually works, or if it was too easy to debunk, or if it was like too hard to tell footprints from, you know, the living, quote unquote the living people in the house, versus if it was a spirit. I would greatly appreciate that. Okay, so moving on, we are in the new moon of Scorpio, and that peaked on November 20th, so that was about officially three days ago, almost four days ago, because it's almost 12 a.m. So this is ushering in a period of deep reflection and emotional transformation. This event encourages shedding old patterns to make way for new beginnings, and it can feel intense due to multiple retrograde planets. The effects will be felt for about two weeks, providing an opportunity for profound emotional healing and a new level of self-awareness. So, the significance of this time. So, time for a new beginning. So it's gonna be very emotionally intense. Um, this is a time to do a lot of shadow work and healing. This energy of the new moon is perfect for shadow work, confronting your fears and the darker aspects of your psyche to heal and to evolve, and it is a time of letting go. Scorpio is associated with death and rebirth. So, this period is ideal for letting go of what no longer serves you to make space for the new, which is crazy because at um Friendsgiving last night at Teresa's, um, any like little parties, I always do random card pulls on my tarot cards. And um, we had to bring Jack home, of course, because he was an emotional wreck wreck, so he must have been feeling uh the Scorpio moon. So, anyways, uh hubby stayed home with him for a little bit. I grabbed my tarot cards and I went back to Teresa's and gave some readings, and it was insane because like every reading it was the death card, the tower card for everybody, like rebirth, shedding, you know, old patterns, new beginnings, and it kept coming up 1122, 1122. My angel, I had like three different angel decks, angel number decks, and they all were pulling 1122, 1122, 1122, and which is insane because that was the date yesterday, and Teresa's favorite number is two, and that's all that I kept pulling is two, one, and then like one one. So it was it was really, really cool. And by the way, you guys, when I do tarot card readings, like the internet tarot card readings make me utterly fucking disgusted because they get paid a lot of times and they're just bullshitting you. Um, I don't give a shit how you do your card pull, what pattern you do, but I will tell you this, and this is why whenever I give readings, they're always genuine, they're free, I never fucking charge. It's just something I won't do because I enjoy doing it, and it's just a side hobby, and it's really a way to use all of my cards, all of my decks at one time. Um, which I mean, literally, I could not use every single deck at one time because I would never, it probably would take me like two hours to do each reading if I did that. That's how many tarot cards and oracle cards I have. But um, anyways, when you what I this is how I do it. When I'm doing um a past, present, future on somebody, or just like a three-card pull, sometimes a six-card pull, just depending. I always tell someone to cut the deck, the ones with like yes or no, you know, on my deck, on those cards, and I always tell them to put their intention into the cards and ask themselves a question. I say, ask a question that like you really, really, really, really need an answer to something that's extremely important to you, and do not tell me and do not say it out loud. Kind of like when you know, when you tell the kids when I'm cutting here and I need them to close their eyes, and I'll say, close your eyes, make a wish, and don't tell me because if you tell me, it won't come true. It's the same way that I use my card pull, right? And every time that I pull these cards for anybody at any place at any time, you know, I say, Okay, you got your question in your head. Yes, is it very important to you? Yes, okay. The answer is, you know, X, Y, whatever. It's always spot on. Every and and it's always because my cards, you know, they have a couple messages, and then they have like the basic tarot card reading, right? And then they'll have the birth dates, they'll have random dates, and then they'll actually have the zodiac signs on them, too. Sometimes it's just like earth, water, air with like one zodiac sign, and sometimes there's like multiple, and it's always spot on, and that's why I tell people let the cards do the work, let the person that you're reading to really set the intention, and then after that, let the cards do the work, and it will 100% always line up. So making my manifestation jar, um, I did kind of come up with a little chant. So I'd like to, I'm gonna give you guys a little bit of insight, like part of my I guess part of my tactic. Okay, so this is for the podcast, and this is something I'd like to say from time to time on here. By my voice I create, by my truth, I rise, my stories reach hearts and awaken minds. My podcast grows beyond sound, it becomes sight, story, and screen. Doors open, opportunities flow, my purpose provides for me. I am seen, I am heard, I am paid for my passion. What began as whispers now become a legacy. So it is. My podcast grows beyond sound. It touches hearts, earns abundance, and becomes a series that carries my truth. As I seal this jar, I seal my purpose, my voice expands, my stories reach. Opportunities flow freely to me. By earth, by air, by fire, by sea, I seal this dream that's meant for me. Through my voice, my truth will shine, guided by my mother's light divine. Her Scorpio strength flows through my hands, transforming vision into plans. From whispers to worlds, my stories grow as above, so below, so it is. She wasn't about like cemeteries, and um, I always freaked her out as a as a young kid. Um, when we would have to go walk through a cemetery to see, you know, my grandma. And uh, but she would definitely appreciate the creativity and the work and the effort that I have put into this whole production in almost three years, right? So yeah, that's just like a little um insight on like how I did, you know, there's obviously other lots of other things that went into that jar and things that I said, but you know, for the most part, I I like to um, you know, help people and give ideas to. I mean, everybody should be making manifestation jars, right? It's like the law of attraction and what you put out there, your energy comes back to you. So yeah, if I can help anyone, you know, do something positive and artistic, right? I'm I'm all for it. So during this new moon, I was inspired to have my poems read by AI. Um, I haven't done that in a while, so I'd like to share with you and you know what the results were. And I mean, I think it's pretty fun, and I think it's harmless to do, right? So my non-dominant hand, it says what you're born with. It says your first show, I'm sorry, your first photo shows slightly softer, more curved lines in symbolic palmistry. That pattern means your original nature leans intuitive, feeling based, and imaginative. You start from empathy and instinct, your creativity and curiosity come naturally. Definitely would have to agree. Alright, so my dominant hand, how you shape life. The second hand has clearer, straighter lines, and firmer structure. Readers interpret that as a sign of discipline developing around your emotions. Experience has taught you focus and direction. You've turned that dreamy imagination into organized goals. The long unbroken headline plus the well-defined line, I'm sorry, lifeline, together point symbolically to persistence. You carry momentum and stick with projects even when the path gets hard. Um, okay. So the headline comparison. The second hand's headline is more pronounced. That's a classic uh strategic shift. Um, lifeline comparison, both lines sweep broadly, the hallmark of vitality and openness, but the dominant hand's curve sits slightly farther from the thumb base, a sign of expansion. So, on these terms, exploring more of the world, taking bigger creative and spiritual risks. Let's see, okay, overall symbolic story born with empathetic psychic curiosity and emotional depth, developed into grounded visionary who channels that sensitivity into concrete projects and community impact. So, my lesson arc is learning to honor intuition while steering it with focus, letting both hands meet in the middle. So the self-made line, it appears in people who carve out their own career rather than following a preset route. It symbolizes persistence through all setbacks and passion projects that eventually define their path. Because the line is steady instead of fragmented, it's said to mark consistency. When you commit, when you commit, you stick with it. Perfect for someone building a long-running creative adventure. So the secondary lines, this is creative and intuitive marks. Across the lower half of the poem, there are a few fine diagonal threads branching upward. Readers call these inspiration or intuition lines, they're associated with heightened perception, people who notice patterns, moods, and timing that others overlook. Symbolically, they encourage you to trust gut signals when brainstorming or investigating. So the mount of Apollo. So this is your ring finger mound, which this is very interesting. Um, read on me because I mean, hello, it's definitely um 1000% correct. This area looks slightly raised, which is connected to artistic self-expression and showmanship. It's a reminder to keep sharing your work publicly. Your success comes from visibility and confidence, not hiding your talent. Love it. So now the Mount of Luna, and this is the outer palm edge near your wrist. Um, it says that mine appears rounded and soft, another intuitive marker. It suggests that you recharge through solitude, nature, and emotional experiences. Journaling, night drives, moonlight rituals, and that sort of like reflective space, which is completely me. I mean, obviously, I'm talking about manifestation jars, talking about the new moon and Scorpio, creepy stories, being alone in the dark, you know. Basically, for me, this is journaling, is a podcast, right? All right, so putting it all together, what does it symbolically mean? So the path is um for me to be self-built, a creator's journey, success through um being persistent and being authentic. My gifts are intuition, imagination, empathy, and pattern spotting. Absolutely agree. My lesson is balance realism with instinct. I would have to agree with that too. And my mantra is create from truth, not from trend, which apps a fucking literally, because I have never been one to follow a trend. Um, I've always authentically just been me. I don't know how to be anyone else, and I wouldn't know how to be like someone else. So I would highly advise you guys to do um take pictures of your palms and have AI read them because it I'm pretty sure it'd be spot on, and you guys will have to let me know, you know, what you think, and you know, did it line up with who you really are? Did it resonate? So, did you guys know that the official birth year of podcasting was in 2004? Though the idea existed earlier, that was when it became real and it was named a podcast, right? So, podcasting was born in 2004 when voices were first captured, stored, and played back in the dark. It started as a way for the living to share stories, but nobody expected that sometimes the dead would answer. That's the thing about stories, they don't always stay in the past, sometimes they follow you into the present. Microphones certainly do not lie, they don't just capture your voice, they capture whoever or whatever is willing to speak. And that's really what got me started on taking microphones out with me to wherever I go. Like I want live locations, I want live interviews, I want in the moment, raw, authentic, unedited, don't give a shit. Want everybody to hear anything and everything, and I will repeat it because I have said earlier in episodes that I always, since I was probably, I don't know, 12, 11 or 12, I always thought I would be like a Courtney Cox in the movie Scream. This is like, I didn't want to just be like a boring reporter on the news. I wanted to be a reporter that was like live and in action, any kind of stories. Um, spooky, gruesome, crazy, fun, sad, tear jerkers, like all of it. Again, that is why I got into the podcasting field, obviously, because I can do all of that here. You don't have to believe in ghosts, but they definitely believe in you. You can close your eyes, but you cannot close your ears. Spirits do not knock, they wait until the house goes quiet. And if you think that's just a story, go there at night alone and tell me that it's just a story. And when you turn this off, listen. If you hear breathing and it's not yours, you did not listen alone. I don't just tell stories, I wake them up. From 2005 until about 2010, were the quiet early days of paranormal podcasting. A few paranormal shows existed, like Ghostly Talk in Michigan starting in 2002, but podcasting itself was still pretty new. Most small forums and niche listeners, no mainstream though, so like they didn't really get a lot of attention. From 2013 until 2016 was like the big first surge. This is when things started to shift. Two big things happened. 2014, serial launched True Crime Plus Storytelling, proving podcasts could be addictive and cinematic. From 2015 until 2016, the black tapes, lore, and astonishing legends began, mixing paranormal storytelling, history, and mystery. Now I did start listening to lore in 2018. And I'll tell you what, I never thought I would be into like podcasts. One of my clients actually told me about this show, and I was like, that's weird. What do I do? Just sit there and listen. I only I only like watch TV or I listen to music. And when I started listening to podcasts, my whole world changed. And I I knew right away I wanted to have a podcast one day, right? I just had to like build up the confidence to do it. So um basically this changed everything. Paranormal podcasts stopped being just stories and became experiences. I love that. So from 2018 to 2020, the boom haunted era came about, and this is when paranormal podcasts exploded in popularity. Well, you know, we 2020, the pandemic, so of course, people became people became obsessed with true crime, hauntings, and real mystery. Podcasts were easier on Spotify, Apple, YouTube, TikTok clips, etc. TikTok made paranormal storytelling blow up visually. The pandemic in 2020 made people crave creepy escapist storytelling downloads skyrocketed. This is when the paranormal podcast became a genre, not just a niche thing, right? So podcasting was essentially born in 2004, but it wasn't until around 2018 that Paranormal Podcasts stopped whispering in the dark and started screaming through the speakers of millions of listeners. So I love this. I absolutely love this because it really made its way and broke ice and really got people. I think like it's it's always gonna kind of be like a taboo thing, but I think with there being more podcasts like mine out there, it's it's a safe, you know, a safe space, and people can talk even about their experiences. And even if you wanted to be John Doe, Jane Doe, and you know, hide who you are and come on here and like tell a story, or you know, even send it my way so that I can tell your story, at least it's being told, you know, and that's how legends are made, right? So I I just am so grateful that paranormal and spooky and serial killer and true crime and all of it podcasts exist, right? Thank you, because I think I would be so bored and would talk everyone around me all their heads off, even more than I already do, without having my own podcast to talk on and to not have any other kind of podcast to listen to. And of course, in early 2023, that's when a new kind of storytelling was born, and that is the Strange Drange Beyond Insane podcast, right? So thank you guys for listening so much. And you know that you can always email me at ghost sisters2124 at gmail. Again, that is ghost sisters2124 at gmail. You can send me a live um ASAP text through our Buzz Sprout um site.
